In its two short years on the scene, Kitchen has transformed a sleepy Dixie Avenue plaza into a buzzy meeting place for well-heeled locals, powerbrokers and celebrities. One should expect no less from chef/co-owner Matthew Byrne, who worked as private chef for Tiger Woods before opening the charming spot with his wife, Aliza Byrne.
This month, as Kitchen turns 2, chef Byrne has rolled out an updated menu of refined American comfort classics. (Like charred corn and crab cake with tomato-avocado relish, seared salmon with kale-corn-white bean succotash, and pan roasted double-cut pork chop with apple-ginger jam.)
A good way of savoring Kitchen’s highlights is to book the chef’s four-course tasting menu ($70 per person). The menu, which changes by season, is available to parties that book the eatery’s private chef’s table as well as larger parties in Kitchen’s more recently added Den space.

If your idea of celebrating World Vegetarian Day is to dine on salad, you may be missing the day’s more sinful temptations. Like cashew cream.
Chef Chris Slawson, who owns the plant-based Christopher’s Kitchen in Palm Beach Gardens, is a master of this delicacy. It’s the substance that adds dreamy richness to his eatery’s ice “cream.” And wait till you try the macadamia “ricotta” that melts atop Christopher’s Kitchen’s pizzas. Like the ice cream, it’s among the stylish cafe’s more naughty options — and there are many of those.
Here’s the reality check: You don’t have to brave a mound of cold iceberg to stand in solidarity today (Thursday) with World Vegetarian Day. You can indulge. Here is a trio of good spots to do so in Palm Beach County:
Big news for the local dining scene: Star chef Lindsay Autry will take her culinary talents to CityPlace.
The Bravo TV “Top Chef” finalist has partnered with restaurateur Thierry Beaud (Pistache, PB Catch, Paneterie) to bring a refreshed “American kitchen table” concept to the massive space most recently occupied by Pampas Grille.
The upcoming eatery, The Regional Kitchen & Public House, is expected to open in early 2016.
“We want to focus on real, conscious and approachable food, showcasing the beautiful product that we have locally and regionally – which is how we came up with the name, really,” says Autry.
The Dispensary, a daylight eatery and soda fountain, has opened on Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach. The retro-hip spot is located inside the Center City Pharmacy, where The Vegan Café briefly operated.
On the menu: hefty breakfast dishes, including four types of Eggs Benedict, shrimp and grits, huevos rancheros, chicken fried steak, smoked salmon on bagel, waffles and biscuits with gravy. Lunch offerings include chickpea soup, potato soup, tons of fresh salads, burgers and sandwiches (BLT, prime rib, cheddar-Gruyere grilled cheese), various sides and daily specials. Soda fountain favorites, like shakes and sundaes, are served as well.
“People are loving the food,” says co-owner Christian Wiebel, a local restaurant veteran who most recently worked at the now-closed Garage VV in Northwood.
He opened the new diner with partner Gregory Galgano on Sept. 1 as an intimate, 45-seat eatery.
“We want to add more tables, but we want to start small, with a chance to grow. For now, we want to keep it small,” says Wiebel.
Hours: Open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the full menu offered till 5 p.m. (From 5 to 7 p.m., soda fountain items, croissants and packaged salads are offered.) Open Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; closed Sunday. Hours are expected to expand in season.
